Jackie Nickerson – Faith

Jackie Nickerson’s photographs shown currently in Rome look so perfect that they could be staged.

BUT that’s just an illusion. These are real people, who have, in the world where faith is largely dismissed, dedicated their life to God. During her 2,5 years travelling around churches and convents, she documented people behind the Catholic religious orders in Ireland.

Nickerson had managed to gain a unique access to these people allowing her to create intimate portraits of the Sisters and Brothers, which came out on both side of the scale of ‘friendly – stern’ looks.
