He demands a one to one session with his subjects – never mind that they are Hollywood A-listers – and he gets his way. A one-man-band with no assistants, no art editors or make up artists, Gotts revels in the intimacy with his subject and his pictures invariably demonstrate this – and his affection for the cinema.

Heslenfeld declined to join the obvious, scientific expeditions that regularly attend the area, and eschewed the tourist cruisers that offer a ‘taste’ of the icy wastelands from the comfort of a heated observation lounge.

Thijs has published the book under his own imprint and it has already been a remarkable - and well deserved - success in Holland. Warmly (or perhaps coldly) recommended.

I like to explore the optical and presentational possibilities of the camera and photographic print respectively, often merging the lens-based medium with other materials and taking it beyond its two-dimensional conventionality’.

A student of cinema at the Sorbonne, Guerin's passion for film was realised by a major series of portrait studies of great modern directors, taken at Festivals across the world. But celebrity portraits are only a small part of Guerin's oeuvre, which encompasses fashion and advertising assignments for Europe's leading magazines and newspapers. Now represented by the Corbis Agency, Guerin balances his commercial work with more personal projects and his perennial pursuit of the luminaries of world cinema.

Two institutions in Winterthur are striving to put Swiss photography at the centre of the international scene. Since 2003 the two have been on one site – the Fotostiftung Schweiz (Swiss Foundation for Photography) and the Fotomuseum Winterthur. In 1971 the Fotostiftung began collecting original exhibition quality prints which - amounting to a vast and near-priceless collection - offers an ambitious overview of the history and key moments of Swiss photography.

The Fotomuseum – founded in 1993 – presents photography as an art form and as a document with important examples of work by the premiere league of international contemporary art and documentary photographers.

Five years later, they hand-picked other photo-journalists to join them and create a bureau.
